Eudora Welty and Cleanth Brooks in Jackson - The Optimist's Daughter

Seventh Segment: Cleanth Brooks notes that Walker Percy gave a warning to young Southern writers, to the effect that they have to face up to situations of change. He asks Welty whether she would agree that in her novel The Optimist's Daughter she showed how the South is changing. Welty observes that all writers should reflect the real world since "life is fluid and on the move and a story's got to catch it."
