Welty responds that those are not a form of novels she reads, and that she has never taken a creative writing class, but "I don't think anything is ever written as a result of a class. Nothing good was written except out of the individual self with a great desire and conviction behind it. You can pick up and learn the trimmings from creative writing class; but it's no substitute for talent. It's a one person thing." |
