Eudora Welty and Cleanth Brooks in Jackson - Creative Writing Classes

Fourth Segment: Cleanth Brooks asks if postmodernist literary trends, where from the reader's standpoint it is difficult to determine what is being communicated, are the result of creative writing classes. Welty responds that those are not a form of novels she reads, and that she has never taken a creative writing class, but "I don't think anything is ever written as a result of a class. Nothing good was written except out of the individual self with a great desire and conviction behind it. You can pick up and learn the trimmings from creative writing class; but it's no substitute for talent. It's a one person thing."
